SKLZ Introduces the New SKLZ SimStix True-Feel Club for Golf Gaming

The SKLZ SimStix features an authentic golf grip and steel shaft for a realistic golf experience. Nike Golf Adds University of Georgia Stand Out Russell Henley to its Stable of Professional Athletes

(BEAVERTON, Ore.) – Nike Golf today announced the signing of 22-year old University of Georgia graduate Russell Henley.  Henley has signed a multi-year agreement to represent the Swoosh and will be using Nike Golf clubs, ball, footwear, glove, bag, apparel, headwear and accessories.

New world-class golf course, The Marrakech Golf Club, Assoufid, set to open

The Marrakech Golf Club, Assoufid, one of the best new courses in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, featuring spectacular views of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, is set to open in spring 2012.

The championship layout, an extraordinary debut design by Scottish PGA professional Niall Cameron, forms part of an exquisite new resort and private residential development on a 222-hectare estate that is set to become Morocco’s premier golf venue.

Top NBA Point Guard Jason Kidd Will Keep His Golf Game Sharp

After a successful 2011 season, Dallas Mavericks point guard Jason Kidd has spent much of his off-season, and may spend much of the on-season, golfing - both indoors and out.

Stono Ferry Enjoys Moment in the Sun

First honored by the Golf Course Owners Association as the best in Charleston and later the 2011 South Carolina Golf Course of the Year, The Links at Stono Ferry now eyes the country’s biggest prize

(HOLLYWOOD, S.C.) — In the past two months alone, The Links at Stono Ferry ( has been named the 2011 Charleston Area Golf Course of the Year by the Charleston Golf Course Owners Association and the 2011 State of South Carolina Golf Course of the Year by the South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association.

Now, the renowned Ron Garl-design — located less that 30 minutes from downtown Charleston, and hearkening back to both the Civil and Revolutionary Wars — finds itself in the running for the year’s National Golf Course of the Year Award.

Presented annually by the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA), The “Course of the Year” Award honors a member that demonstrates four criteria: Exceptional quality of the course, exceptional quality of ownership and management, outstanding contribution to its community and significant contribution to the game.

The “Course of the Year” Award winners come from NGCOA’s core membership and are model operations to their peers. Each NGCOA chapter selects a “Chapter Course of the Year,” which is then submitted in the running for the “National Course of the Year.” The winner is decided upon at the annual fall meeting of the NGCOA Board of Directors.

One recipient each year is chosen by the Board, with the award dating back to 2004. Past recipients include World Tour Golf Links (South Carolina, 2004), Saratoga National Golf Club (New York, 2005); Pebble Beach (Oregon, 2006); The Legends Golf Club (Minnesota, 2007) and Reynolds Plantation (Georgia, 2008).

A golf course that can trace its roots back before the Revolutionary War offers the type history golfers would expect to find in Charleston. The actual Stono Ferry site was used by plantations to ferry their goods across the Stono River, and as a redoubt and battery site in both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars.

On The Links at Stono Ferry’s 12th hole, there is a cannon pointing at the old ferry landing, and one bunker on the course was part of a Revolutionary War battlefield. Meanwhile, part of the 13th hole is laid out where an old railroad line ran from Charleston to Savannah from the 1850s all the way up to the 1960s.

Given Stono Ferry’s spectacular setting along the pristine Intracoastal waters and salt marshes of South Carolina, its owners have set out to preserve and protect the environment with respect for the poignant reminders of its rich and storied past, and an appreciation of unique Lowcountry cultural traditions.

• Re-establishment of the Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design philosophy by recapturing the original green sizes and configurations as well as implementing a return to the "runway tee" style.

KemperSports, the Northbrook, Ill.-based company that has managed Dorado Beach Resort and Club since 2006, oversaw construction for the 18-month restoration project.

"The East Course is a true historic masterpiece," said KemperSports CEO Steve Skinner. "The restoration team has done a wonderful job in bringing the design back to its original glory."

The Dorado Beach East Course has hosted numerous prestigious events since its inception in 1958, including the 1963 Canada Cup, the 1964 Shell's Wonderful World of Golf event, the Senior PGA Tour Championship from 1990 through 1993, the Champions Tour's Tournament of Champions in 1995 and 1996, the PGA TOUR's World Cup of Golf in 1994 and the Chrysler Senior Match Play Challenge in 1999 and 2000. By adding length and significant physical improvements to the course, Dorado Beach East is once again poised to host world-class golf events.

The renovation of the East Course is the first phase of a complete transformation of the property that includes the addition of a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Ritz-Carlton Reserve Residences and a complete restoration of the West Course. The hotel is expected to be open by late 2012, and the West Course (also redesigned by Robert Trent Jones II) will begin renovation in 2012.

Laurence Rockefeller, grandson of John D. Rockefeller, established Dorado Beach as a popular resort in the late 1950s. After the resort opened, it was a famous destination for celebrities such as Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Gerald Ford, Dwight Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy. Today, celebrities such as Chi-Chi Rodriguez, Felix Trinidad, Carlos Beltran, Ivan Rodriguez and Ricky Martin frequently visit the resort.

Dorado Beach offers Resort Residences available for sale and overnight stays overlooking the golf courses. Ritz-Carlton Reserve beachfront residences and golf townhomes are also under construction and are available for purchase; these residences are expected to be completed with the opening of Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in December 2012.
