Greater Hickory Kia Classic at Rock Barn Chooses Spotless Swing Golf Towel for Their Pro-Am

BrightSpot Solutions announced that custom logoed versions of their Spotless Swing golf towels will be part of Greater Hickory Kia Classic at Rock Barn Champions Tour golf tournament held at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, NC the week of October 14.

Spotless Swing will be included in the gift bags given to players participating in the Wednesday and Thursday Pro-Am events. The Greater Hickory Kia Classic logo has been embroidered on the top of each towel.

Scott Salzman, owner of BrightSpot Solutions and inventor of Spotless Swing stated, "It is incredibly exciting to be part of the prestigious Greater Hickory Kia Classic." When asked about the exposure this event brings to Spotless Swing, Salzman added, "We currently have more than 30 professionals on the PGA and Champions Tours using Spotless Swing. The Greater Hickory Kia Classic Pro-Am will give us even greater exposure to golfers at all levels of the game."

Designed in the shape of an oversized head cover, Spotless Swing replaces the need for golfers to carry multiple towels and an awkward, messy brush. Spotless Swing functions as three towels in one:
1. Outside keeps the hands, face, glove and grips clean and dry;
2. Inside protects and preserves golf clubs by removing dirt, mud and water;
3. Revolutionary MicroBrush fabric cleans club grooves effortlessly preparing the club for its next shot.

A portion of the inside of the multi-use golf towel is made of a uniquely designed MicroBrush fabric that easily cleans the grooves of the club-face where dirt hides from ordinary towels. The fabric is coarse enough to clean deeply into the grooves yet soft enough to not damage the golf club finish, and absolutely no water is needed. The ultra-high quality microfiber fabric that makes up main body of Spotless Swing absorbs over 600% of its weight in dirt, mud and water.

Spotless Swing is available in eight colors: Black (with red trim), Red (with black trim), Solid Black, Pink, Royal Blue, Navy Blue, Hunter Green and White. The golf towel conveniently attaches to any golf bag with the included carabineer clip.

Custom embroidery is available for Spotless Swing. The towels can be custom logoed for golf events or as a promotional golf product.

Sunice Selected as Outerwear Supplier for Presidents Cup International Team

(Montreal, Quebec) - Sunice is proud to announce their partnership with the PGA TOUR on being selected as the official outerwear supplier for The Presidents Cup 2013 International Team. The Presidents Cup 2013 will be October 1-6 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. Nick Price is the captain of the 12-member International Team.

The 2013 International Team outerwear will include a selection of gear to protect from rain, wind and the cold.

In developing the program - Sunice wanted to ensure that the player's and caddies were provided the best defense against any and all possible weather conditions. It was decided at that point Gore Tex fabrics would be the best choice for protection from rain and wind. Garments constructed with Gore Tex fabric enhanced with Paclite technology ensure the lightest weight performance fabric. Coupled with this technology and the uniquely designed construction of each of the selected garments, Sunice was able guarantee full freedom of movement to the players, allowing them to perform at their best in ultimate comfort and protection.

"We share Nick Price's confidence that his team will be equipped with the very best performance outerwear available and well prepared for any challenging weather condition they may face," said Mark Fletcher, president of Sunice.

The outerwear for The Presidents Cup 2013 International Team uniforms will be constructed of Gore Tex fabrics enhanced with Paclite Technology and Windstopper 3L soft-shells. The players' uniform package includes: a full-zip rain jacket with stretch back panel inserts, short sleeve rain pullover, rain pants, and a Windstopper full stretch 3Layer softshell vest and, of course, the final piece to the uniform, a waterproof bucket hat.

Caddies' outerwear will include: a full-zip rain jacket with stretch back panel inserts, short sleeve rain pullover, rain pants, Windstopper full stretch 3 Layer softshell vest and a waterproof bucket hat.  Players' significant others will be provided: a full-zip jacket with removable hood, rain pants, 3Layer soft-shell car coat and a waterproof bucket hat.

"It is a great honour to be able to outfit the best of the best of the International players," said Kathryn McClemens, Senior Product Manager for Sunice. "To work closely with Nick Price and the PGA TOUR was a unique experience as it was a pure collaboration in designing and developing the uniforms. We went in to the initial meetings and it was clear there were specific ideas of the overall look that was expected for the uniforms. But after discussing and playing around with different colour palettes and concepts - everyone, especially the team captain - was so receptive to breaking out of the box a little, giving a fresh look to the outerwear portion of the uniforms and allowing us to be true to ourselves and deliver a program that is purely Sunice. The overall appearance is nothing less than spectacular and the International Team will be nothing short of the best-dressed team."

"As we get closer to The Presidents Cup, the anticipation is mounting as we anxiously await the appearance of the International Team in their custom-designed Sunice outerwear suits," added Mark Fletcher.

Sunice garments will also be featured in the on-site Presidents Cup merchandise tent selling President Cup logoed outerwear and layering pieces.

Mizuno Introduces Groundbreaking JPX EZ Forged Irons

Innovative irons provide 'game-improvement' length and trajectory with unmistakable forged feel

(Norcross, Ga.) - Mizuno USA, a world-class leader in golf technology and development, has pushed the design and aesthetic limits to deliver the most innovative and forgiving grain flow forged irons by Mizuno to market - JPX EZ Forged. Shifting from the "classic" polished steel look used for decades, the new JPX EZ Forged iron offers the undeniable forged feel while improving upon the performance of the past forged irons to deliver the same level of forgiveness only seen in cast game-improvement irons.

The new JPX EZ Forged incorporates an enhanced COR face design for increased distance while Grain Flow Forged 1025E "Pure Select" mild carbon steel gives golfers a superior soft, solid and consistent feel. Weight within the iron has been redistributed to the perimeter of the four-through-seven irons to give maximum MOI and optimum forgiveness through the use of an Undercut Forged Cavity to allow an expanded rebound area and create the largest sweet spot in a Mizuno one-piece forged iron. The iron also offers a CORTECH design to increase COR using the maximum discretionary weight needed for added distance and forgiveness. The extreme toe/heel weighted cavity design throughout the set maintains an industry leading MOI amongst forged irons that is assured to elevate golfers' confidence at address.

"During ideation, development and creation of the JPX EZ Forged iron we knew it would be in a class all by itself, which, in the golf industry, is difficult to claim and something we are extremely proud of," said Chuck Couch, VP of Product Management, Golf Division. "The distance and forgiveness screams game-improvement, but we've been able to channel those characteristics in a Grain Flow Forged iron that'll change the way golfers look, think and feel over the golf ball. We're excited to receive consumer feedback as we believe the new EZ Forged appeals to a wide breadth of golfers."

Mizuno utilized its Harmonic Impact Technology (H.I.T.) to engineer a strong cavity frame that allows for a thinner, more reactive face to allow the JPX EZ Forged to provide the necessary ball speed with the desired feel at impact. The new black nickel-plated finish reduces glare and creates a stunning aesthetic look.

"We believe the JPX EZ's will enable golfers at every level the ability to enjoy consistency in their game," said Couch. "With the dramatic numbers produced by EZ Forged throughout the R&D process, it seemed only appropriate to also introduce a dramatic new finish."

Tiger Woods again earns Player of the Year Award and Vardon Trophy

(PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.) - Tiger Woods, a five-time winner on Tour this year, captured his 11th PGA of America Player of the Year Award and ninth Vardon Trophy, The PGA of America's premier season-ending awards for excellence by a Tour professional. It was the first time since 2009 that Woods earned both PGA of America awards.

Completing his 16th full season as a Tour professional, Woods won The Players Championship and two World Golf Championships among his five victories; finished as the No. 1 money leader; and won the Vardon Trophy by posting the lowest adjusted season scoring average (68.98).

Woods collected 100 overall points, while Masters Champion Adam Scott was next with 64. Henrik Stenson, winner of the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup, shared third at 54 points, along with U.S. Open Champion Justin Rose and Open Champion Phil Mickelson.

Tour rookie Jordan Spieth finished ninth in the PGA Player of the Year standings, after placing eight in scoring and 10th on the season money list.

Woods claimed the Vardon Trophy by completing the Tour Championship, finishing his regular Tour campaign with 61 complete rounds, one above the minimum required 60 to be considered for the award.

Woods' 60 overall victory points were based upon wins in the Farmers Insurance Open, the WGC-Cadillac Championship, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players Championship (worth 20 points) and the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Woods earned 20 points as the No. 1 money leader, and 20 more points for adjusted scoring average.

Scott also won the Barclays Championship, was fourth in scoring (69.34), and sixth on the money list.
The PGA of America has honored the game's best players with The PGA Player of the Year Award since 1948. The award is presented to the top touring professional based on a point system for tournament wins, official money standings, and scoring averages. Points are tabulated from Jan. 1, through the Tour Championship, which concluded Sept. 22.

Since 1937, the Vardon Trophy, named by The PGA of America in honor of famed British golfer Harry Vardon, is awarded annually to the touring professional with the lowest adjusted scoring average. It is based on a minimum of 60 rounds, with no incomplete rounds, in events co-sponsored or designated by the PGA Tour. The adjusted score is computed from the average score of the field at each event.

The PGA Tour also recognizes its annual Player of the Year, with the winner determined by a vote of the membership. The voting period commences after the conclusion of The Tour Championship. The Player of the Year, who receives the Jack Nicklaus Trophy, will be announced prior to the start of the 2013-14 season.

Additionally, the Tour recognizes a Rookie of the Year, also determined by a vote among Tour members. In select years, a PGA Tour Courage Award will be presented to a player who, through courage and perseverance, has overcome extraordinary adversity to make a significant and meaningful contribution to the game of golf.

The recipient of this award will be selected by the Commissioner and the Tour's Player Directors.
Other season-ending honors to be announced by the PGA Tour include the Arnold Palmer Award for the leading money-winner and the Byron Nelson Award, presented to the player with the lowest adjusted scoring average (minimum of 50 official rounds).

The CS2 Putting Aid Gains Instant Acceptance on the PGA Tour

More than 40 players request a CS2 putting aid in just four weeks on Tour

(Pinehurst, NC) - The CS2 Putting Aid made an instant impact on the PGA Tour in recent weeks with many of the best players in the world requesting and receiving a unit. Spectators surrounding the practice putting greens at recent Tour events could not have helped noticing the increasing number of green coloured putting aids in use by many of the top Tour players. With the huge payday looming at the season ending Tour Championship, players were looking for every last advantage they could find to get them into the final event of the year. In the 4 weeks leading up to the Tour Championship, over 40 Tour players requested and received their CS2 putting aid. The CS2 putting aid is fast becoming the hottest new training aid for the top tour players and at retail.

The CS2's PGA Tour rep, Berhnard Garsen, commented "It has been my privilege to demonstrate the CS2 to these great players. Many of the players have expressed their gratitude at receiving such a useful and effective putting aid. I have had numerous players comment that this is the finest putting training aid ever designed. This is high praise indeed."

The winners of the Deutsche Bank, Tour Championship and FedEx Cup along with the winner of the BMW Championship, all had their CS2's along for the ride.

"It is hard to believe how quickly the Tour players have taken to the CS2" says putting instructor to the pros, Mike Shannon.

And CBS Golf Analyst, Ian Baker-Finch, believes "every Tour player around the world will soon have one of their own CS2's for working with at home, in their hotel room, or on the putting green."

The remarkable CS2 putting aid (www.cs2putting.com) is the most effective and comprehensive putting training aid to hit the market in years. The major benefit of the CS2 is it literally has no limitations for style of stroke, lie angle, type of putter, length of putter, etc... and addresses the "5 Key Fundamentals" of great putting; aim, alignment, stroke path, square putter face at impact, and speed/pace. No other putting training aid has been able to help golfers master these key fundamentals in one easy to use design. Whether you are practicing at home, the office or on the putting green, the CS2 is the ultimate putting practice station.

The CS2 putting aid retails for $99.99, weighs less than 3 pounds, fits easily in your bag and it sets up in seconds (wholesale and PUD pricing available). The key to the CS2's genius is that it does not force you to putt in a pre-defined fashion. You can adjust it to match your unique natural stroke. As you work with the CS2 you will find a natural repeatable putting stroke that works for you. The CS2 then enables you to lock in your stroke path number every time you practice.

Golf Channel extends European Tour coverage through 2024

(WENTWORTH, VIRGINIA WATER and ORLANDO, Fla.) - The European Tour announced a new 10-year agreement with Golf Channel for all European Tour tournaments through the 2024 season. The announcement was made jointly by George O’Grady, Chief Executive of The European Tour, and Mike McCarley, President of Golf Channel.

The extension to the existing seven-year arrangement will begin in 2015 and was announced on the eve of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, one of the most prestigious events on The Race to Dubai and one of the most popular European Tour tournaments with American audiences.

George O’Grady, Chief Executive of The European Tour, said: “We have had an exceptionally strong association with Golf Channel since its inception 19 years ago and this relationship was further highlighted earlier this year when Golf Channel on NBC broadcasted the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.

“We are therefore delighted to announce this ten-year extension to our agreement, which is further compelling evidence of the continued appeal of The European Tour, through our showcasing of the game and the immense talent being discovered in all of the countries where our tournaments take place.”

Mike McCarley, President of Golf Channel, said: “The European Tour features many of the world’s best golfers playing on spectacular courses across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, which is reflective of golf as a global game. The European Tour’s regular morning timeslot has kicked off Golf Channel’s tournament coverage days since the network’s launch and this extension further solidifies our strong partnership, which now will span three decades with this new agreement.”

The new agreement further underlines The European Tour’s long-term relationship with Golf Channel, which dates back to the network’s launch in January 1995 with its first live golf coverage at the Dubai Desert Classic. The continued growth of this partnership has been marked by several major milestones, including Golf Channel on NBC’s broadcast of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open in July, which was the first regular European Tour event to be aired live on network television in America.

Since Golf Channel joined the NBC Sports Group in 2011, The European Tour has seen nearly a 60 percent increase in viewership. And this season is on pace to be The European Tour’s most-watched year ever in the United States.

Under the terms of the new agreement, The European Tour and Golf Channel will continue to work closely on the commercial delivery of events, whilst also collaborating to enhance the overall production of European Tour events. In addition, the agreement encompasses rights to Golf Channel networks in Canada and Japan.

2019 PGA Championship, 2024 Ryder Cup at Bethpage State Park

(PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.) - In an unprecedented agreement between The PGA of America and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Bethpage State Park's Black Course in Farmingdale, N.Y., one of the country's most popular venues, has been selected to host the 101st PGA Championship in 2019, and serve as the site of the 45th Ryder Cup in 2024.

With Gov. Cuomo in attendance, the dual announcement was made at Bethpage State Park. Bethpage Black, the renowned gem of five public golf courses within the state park property on Long Island, has hosted the 2002 and 2009 U.S. Open Championship, and the 2012 Barclays Championship.

"How fitting it is that we will be taking two of golf's premier events to a state that was the site of our first PGA Championship and to a spectacular course whose design was influenced by one of golf's most accomplished architects and a friend of The PGA of America," said PGA of America President Ted Bishop. "It is exciting that both the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup will come to New York, which is home to some of the most passionate and knowledgeable sports fans in the world."

Opened for play in 1936, Bethpage Black was designed by legendary architect A.W. Tillinghast, who was a guest at an exploratory meeting of The PGA of America in January, 1916. After The PGA's founding on April 10, 1916, Tillinghast would later serve as a forerunner to today's "growth of the game" consultants. Rees Jones led the renovation of the Black Course in 1997-98.

Tillinghast also developed the Bethpage Red and Blue Courses, and modified the Lenox Hills Course, which later became the Green Course. The Yellow Course, designed by Alfred Tull, opened in 1958 to enable golfers to play nearly 300,000 rounds annually on Bethpage State Park's property.

"New York is excited that Bethpage State Park and its spectacular Black Course will be hosting two of golf's most acclaimed events, the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup," said Governor Cuomo. "These major sporting events will provide a tremendous economic boost for Long Island and promote the beautiful Bethpage State Golf Course to the nation and the world. We look forward to welcoming spectators and television viewers worldwide to experience the best golf here in New York."

Bethpage Black, measuring 7,486 yards and played to a par 71 from its back tees, also has been home to multiple Metropolitan PGA Section and New York State Open competitions.

"As a New Yorker, I can't tell you how excited I am to be a part of today's announcement," said PGA of America Chief Executive Officer Pete Bevacqua. "New York is part of the fabric of the history of The PGA of America, from our founding in New York City in 1916, to hosting multiple championships and having four great PGA Sections within the state. We are grateful to Governor Cuomo's commitment to hosting these great events at Bethpage and we look forward to working with both local and state officials to add an unforgettable chapter in golf history at Bethpage."

In 2019, Bethpage Black will mark the 13th time that a New York venue has hosted the PGA Championship, the most for any state that has staged the season's final major. The PGA Championship enjoys a rich heritage dating back to its inaugural event in 1916 at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, N.Y. Past Champions span both the legendary and recent stars of the game: Walter Hagen, Gene Sarazen, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Padraig Harrington, Keegan Bradley, Rory McIlroy and Jason Dufner.

"Bethpage State Park takes great pride in its history of serving as host to golf's pre-eminent events," said New York State Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey. "With the combination of a PGA Championship and a Ryder Cup being conducted on our property, it solidifies the confidence that the golf industry has in our staff, our venue and the community to provide the ultimate spectator experience."

In 2024, Bethpage Black will join Oak Hill Country Club's East Course of Pittsford, N.Y., as the only New York courses to host a Ryder Cup. Oak Hill was the venue for the 1995 Ryder Cup in addition to three PGA Championships (1980, 2003, '13).

The Ryder Cup, golf's most compelling event, began in 1927, bringing together the finest tour professionals from the United States and Europe. In September 2014, Europe will host the U.S. in the 40th Ryder Cup, at Gleneagles' PGA Centenary Course in Perthshire, Scotland.

LINKS Magazine Names the Best Golfer of All Time in its 25th Anniversary Edition

(Hilton Head, S.C.) — The question is as old — and as tricky — as the game itself: “Who is the best golfer of all time?”

While most pundits usually dodge giving a straight answer, LINKS Magazine — the freshest and most exciting magazine in golf — has no such qualms. In the magazine’s 25th anniversary edition, which features six lists of “Top 25s” in golf’s long history, the editors come right out and say that the best player is …

… Either Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods. They are numbers one and two, but the winner isn’t going to be named here.

Perhaps even more interesting than who tops the list is the lineup of stars that follow. The names include Hogan, Hagen, and Snead, not to mention Jones, Watson, and Mickelson. Plus a few that are sure to surprise even the savviest of golf fans.

“We’ve taken the bold and brazen path,” explains editor George Peper, who adds, “Having said that, we’ve also copped out a bit.” Acknowledging that it is difficult to rank the best of the best across eras, genders, and continents, the Top 25 list of players is divided into three groups: Top 15 Americans, Top 5 Internationals, and Top 5 Women.

How were the rankings determined? Number of victories is not the only criterion. “All three lists take into account other factors,” says Peper, “such as longevity, singular achievements, and overall contributions to the game.”

As for LINKS’ contributions to the game, the list of Top 25 Players, as well as the Top 25 Golf Resorts in the world, are viewable now on the magazine’s website, linksmagazine.com, where readers can weigh in with their opinions of the results.

All six Top 25 lists will be released in the print edition of LINKS this week, at which point they also will be available on the new iPad, Android, and Kindle Fire versions, which come as part of the magazine’s new “All Access” subscription.

95-year-old Palmetto Dunes resident Leo Luken shoots age for 1,000th time

Having now shot his age or better for the 1,000th time, 95-year-old Palmetto Dunes resident Leo Luken is living proof that age is just a number

(HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.) — Hilton Head Island resident Leo Luken shot his age or better for the 1,000th time Tuesday on the George Fazio Golf Course at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, firing a 92 (47-45) to reach the milestone.

Despite taking a 9 on the par-4 eighth hole and a double-bogey on the par-4 18th, Luken still managed to better his age by three strokes including a thrilling hole-out for a birdie on the par-3 sixth hole.

Described by his playing companions as “humble, gracious and fiercely competitive,” Luken still carries a 21 handicap and typically plays three days a week on the George Fazio and Robert Trent Jones courses at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort where he resides, typically shooting his age or better about two out of three times.

“My [playing] partners told me I would have to swim across the lagoon on [the par-3] 17th if I hit it in the water,” said Luken following his historic round Tuesday. “On my previous attempt at Jones I hooked one out of bounds on No. 17.”

“While there are a couple of gold standards in golf and sports, shooting your age surely must rank among the most coveted and enviable goals of all,” said Palmetto Dunes Director of Golf Clark Sinclair, who has known Luken for many years. “It means two important things: One has lived a relatively long life. And they are still a good golfer, with enough athleticism left to skillfully navigate their way around 18 holes.”

What would seem like an amazing accomplishment for most anyone else will go down as another notch in the belt for the 95-year-old Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort resident, who didn’t take up golf until he was 45 years old and first shot his age at the age of 71 with 68 being his best-ever round in Fort Wayne, Ind.

At one point in his life, Luken was arguably the world’s best fast-pitch softball hurler, using a pitch clocked at more than 100 miles per hour to help win 53 straight games from 1944-46 for the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons. Nicknamed “Leo the Lion-Hearted,” his 511 total wins helped earn Luken a spot in both the Kentucky and Indiana Sports Halls of Fame.

Following Luken’s historic accomplishment Tuesday, he was more interested in talking about his family. Luken and his wife, Mickey, celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this spring. The pair taught dance for three hours a night for 30 years to put their children through college. A daughter, Lisa, went to Purdue where she played golf and was chosen as the school’s Student Athlete of the Decade. Now, one of his grandsons is attending Purdue.

Eight years ago, when Luken shot his age for the 530th time, he bettered his age by six shots and he picked a particularly sporty time to do it — the final round of the inaugural Shoot Your Age Championship at The Villages, Fla. This novel event brought together 58 amateurs and two legendary professionals, ranging in age from 67 to 96 on a course measuring 6,251 yards, with par represented by the competitor’s age.

Playing in front of 8,300 spectators, with cameras whirling for a CBS tape-delayed national broadcast the following afternoon, Luken took his 6-under 81 to the clubhouse, where he anxiously waited for everyone else to finish. Adding to the drama, once players reached the number of strokes equaling their age, they were eliminated and had to leave the course.

By the end, only six of the 60-player field lasted long enough to hole out on 18, and Luken finished a whopping three shots ahead of a trio of players, which included a 76-year-old by the name of Arnold Palmer. Another guy who enjoyed a pretty good playing career, Gary Player, had been eliminated on the 17th green.

None could match the play of Luken, who brought back to Hilton Head Island an engraved Waterford crystal bowl, a pair of Southwest Airlines tickets and a 42-inch Dell plasma-screen TV for his victory.

“Yeah, Gary Player thought I was lying,” Leo said. “Before we teed off the first day down at the championship, he was walking around introducing himself and asking guys how many times they’d shot their age. One guy said twelve, and another said thirty. When he got to me I said five hundred twenty nine, which was the number at that time. Player threw up arms and said, ‘Get outta here.’” Then with a grin, Leo said, “The next day I made it five-thirty and won the tournament.”

New Idea Hybrid Irons from Adams to Make Golf Easier with Breakthrough Iron Slot Technology

(PLANO, TEXAS) – Adams Golf has changed how irons perform with revolutionary wraparound slots in its New Idea Hybrid Irons, generating higher ball speeds and more forgiveness, especially on off-center shots.

Extensive research revealed that golfers with 15-plus handicaps make the majority of contact nearly ½” toward the toe, not on the club’s sweet spot. These new super game improvement irons are specifically designed to enhance the face speed in the area where those players need it most.

"With a concentration on developing technology that golfers really need, we created these industry-first wraparound slots on the toe to compensate for a very common mis-hit,” said Justin Honea, Senior Director of Research and Development. “New Idea irons are definitely our easiest to hit, with measurable improvements in ball speeds and forgiveness where players require it most."

The new slot design creates a spring-like effect across the entire face, expanding the sweet spot. Compared to the industry-leading Idea a12 OS Hybrid Irons, the New Idea Hybrid Irons provide 44% more ball speed on off-center hits and 24% more ball speed on flush shots, because of increased flex from the unsupported faces.

New Idea Hybrids

The standard set of the New Idea starts with Adams’ industry-leading hybrids (3-4-5) that feature the company’s Cut-Thru sole slots located behind the face, visible on the crown and sole of the clubs. The refined slot design generates increased ball speeds, higher launch and additional distance, most notably on off-center shots, compared to the company’s Idea a12 OS Hybrids.

“These are our easiest to hit hybrids ever, period, as we continue to expand the sweet spot,” said Honea. “Hybrids are our specialty, so we take extra pride in improving ball speed and forgiveness for shots that challenge golfers the most.”

The hybrids also feature Adams’ patented upside-down shape that puts more surface area lower on the face of the club where golfers generally make contact with the ball. This creates a lower center of gravity that helps the ball launch higher, while reducing spin, for better distance results.

Transitional Hybrid Irons

A significant difference between New Idea Hybrid Irons and past models is the new wraparound slot technology. With transitional hybrid irons (6-7) in the set, these clubs bridge the gap between the hybrids and short irons. The 270° slots start from the heel area and cover the sole around the clubhead to the topline – allowing the unsupported face to flex for higher ball speeds and more forgiveness no matter where the ball is struck on the face.

“There’s tremendous emphasis put into transitional hybrid irons, particularly with the addition of the toe slot,” added Honea. “The wraparound slots allow us to seamlessly replicate the hot faces of our industry-leading hybrids.”

Scoring Irons

Completing the set are three scoring irons (8-PW) that help players focus on the target and dial in approach shots close to the pin. These provide the benefits of traditional cavity back irons, with the additional advantage of wraparound slots to keep off-center hits headed toward the green.

Complete Sets for Men and Women

Adams is well-known for its complete set offerings that present the company’s award-winning technology in an easy-to-purchase manner.

The New Idea men’s complete set includes a 460cc titanium driver designed for maximum forgiveness and distance through Adams’ patented aerodynamic shaping; a 3 and 5-wood featuring Cut-Thru slots on the crown and sole to create higher launch without increasing spin for longer carry distances; the New Idea Hybrid Irons with slot technology through the entire set (3-PW); a Yes! Mallet Putter featuring C-Groove technology for a better forward roll; and a stylish black and white cart bag with blue trim that includes abundant storage along with matching Idea headcovers.

The New Idea women’s complete set is available in four distinct colors with technology and set configurations specific to female golfers. The 12-piece package contains a titanium 12.5-degree driver, three fairway woods (3, 5 & 7) featuring slot technology for more ball speed and increased forgiveness, the New Idea Hybrid Irons (5-SW) with wraparound slot technology, and a Yes! Mallet Putter with C-Groove technology on the face for a better, more accurate and forward roll on the greens.

Colorways for women include: Almond and Blackberry (both available in Standard and Petite sizes) and Raspberry and Melon (both available in Right Hand only). All colors are integrated throughout the entire set from the clubheads to the grip and into the bag and headcovers. The sets include stylish, lightweight cart bags with plenty of large pockets for storage and an easy access putter well.

Availability

The New Idea Hybrid Irons ship to pro shops and specialty golf retailers on Oct. 15 with an MSRP of $799.99 for graphite shafts (Mitsubishi Rayon Bassara Eagle Series 65g) and $699.99 for steel (True Temper Dynalite 85g). New Idea Hybrids will ship at the same time with an MSRP of $169.99.

The New Idea complete sets for women ship on Nov. 1 in the Almond color, while the Blackberry, Raspberry and Melon ship Dec. 1. Men’s New Idea complete set will ship Nov. 1. All sets carry an MSRP of $999.99.

Course Review: StoneWater Golf Club

In golf, the first hole is often referred to as a “handshake hole.” These holes are generally short to mid-length, with few hazards and a fairly docile green to gently close things out. This is not the case at StoneWater Golf Club in Highland Heights, Ohio.

StoneWater, a Hurdzan-Fry design, opens with the No. 1 handicap hole, so tighten those laces, limber up and make sure you’re prepared to be challenged from the word “go.” From the tips, the opening hole isn’t obnoxiously long (432 yards), but the dogleg-right Par 4 is well protected by bunkers, and water sits to the right of the green. Safely on in regulation? The two-tiered green requires a golfer to be on the right level. I wasn’t and paid the price with a three-putt bogie.

Survive the first and you’re greeted with the 464-yard Par 4 second and 201-yard Par 3 third. If the length of No. 3 doesn’t scare you, all the water you carry off the tee wraps around to the back-right and demands accuracy. There’s no bailing out left, either, as a pair of traps grab those playing away from water.

The opening trio is as demanding as any golfer would want. You can catch your breath on holes 4-8 (I played them at even par), but be prepared for No. 9. The closing hole on the outward half is a 470-yard Par 4 with an uphill approach to the green. The fairway is generous, which is good because a driver helps off the tee if you plan on hitting the green in regulation.

No. 10 ... Here’s the handshake we were looking for two hours ago. While not without its defenses, the 365-yard Par 4 is certainly more friendly than its front nine counterpart.

Of note on the back nine is No. 13 - a 625-yard Par 5 that demands both length and accuracy. With trees on both sides and a forced carry on your second shot, this is target golf at its finest. I chose to go with a 3-wood off the tee and planned on hitting a hybrid iron to the 150-yard marker. Unfortunately, a poor second left me with another hybrid into the green. I was lucky to escape with a two-putt par.

Big hitters unhappy with not being able to go for No. 13 in two will be pleased to know that the following hole is reachable off the tee - with a bomb. At 335 yards from the tips, average hitters can take less than a driver and still enjoy a short- to mid-length iron into this green.

By handicap, No. 16 is considered the third-most-difficult hole on the back, but I wouldn’t argue with anyone who said it was the hardest. With houses to the left, trees to the right and a bunker in the landing zone, this dogleg-right is demanding from tee to green. The double bogie I suffered here would solidify the argument.

StoneWater Golf Club is a residential layout and houses do creep in on a few tee shots, but for the most part it’ll take a pretty crooked shot to disturb the peace. At 7,060 yards from the tips, it’s important to play the right set of tees.I generally hit between 260-270 with my driver, so I played one set in (6,674 yards), which was ideal for me. My handicap index is 8.4 and I shot 80 (38-42) on this Par 71 (35-36).

The golf carts are equipped with state-of-the-art GPS units, but I reviewed the GolfLogix app while playing. Check out that review HERE.

This course hosted the Nationwide Tour’s Legend Group Classic from 2005-07, so you know it has chops. It’s the site of PGA Tour star Jason Day’s first professional win, too.

PutterGeek on Alignment Technology

PutterGeek shares his thoughts on Putter Alignment Aids:

“Let’s give credit where credit is due: The Odyssey 2-Ball putter was the pioneer in linear alignment aids. Before the 2-Ball made its debut on the putting scene more than 10 years ago, the only alignment aid one could find on a putter was a little line on the top to the putter that showed where you were supposed to hit the ball.

“After the enormously popular 2-Ball Putter, linear alignment became all the rage. Ever since, golf putter marketeers have fallen all over themselves designing innovative linear alignment aids in an attempt to compete with or surpass the 2-Ball alignment embodiment. But ironically most golf putters including the 2-Ball and its imitators actually have no need for a linear alignment aid to indicate the location of a sweet spot because none have a sweet spot in the first place - but that is another topic, so let’s not digress.

“In addition to Linear Alignment, golfers also need to be concerned about Lateral Alignment, and Launch Alignment. Of the three, Linear Alignment is the least of a golfer’s alignment worries. Lateral Alignment affects putting precision directly, because when lateral alignment is off, the ball invariably misses the cup either to one side or the other. Launch Alignment is almost as insidious because when it is off, the ball invariably falls either short or over-runs the cup.

“One new technology golf putter has a perfected Linear Alignment Aid, a perfected Lateral Alignment Aid, and a perfected Launch Alignment Aid. In addition, this new technology golf putter has a unique Auto-Alignment feature which automatically corrects all miss-alignments in real time during the glide phase of the putting stroke. This new technology golf putter is the Quantum Roller Golf Putter.”

About PutterGeek: PutterGeek is the nickname of the physicist/designer at Quantum Golf Putter Company, maker of the Quantum Roller Golf Putter, the new technology golf putter awarded Most Beneficial Golf Putter and Best Value Golf Putter by the golf putter evaluation authority, “All about Golf Putters and Putting.”

AHEAD’s New Thermal Regulation Performance Technology Adjusts to Body’s Temperature Change

(NEW BEDFORD, Mass.) – AHEAD’s new Thermal Regulation technology, which is making its debut with five styles in the company’s 2014 men’s apparel collection, is helping golfers maintain optimum body temperature based on the day’s changing weather conditions.

Thermal Regulation is a polymer (hollow) shell yarn that utilizes phase change and controls the production of moisture before it begins, explained Bill Godden, AHEAD’s director of apparel.  The material, Godden continued, absorbs, stores and releases heat for optimal thermal comfort, while the shell absorbs, stores and releases excess heat.

“Most of the technology you see in the industry only allows for coolness,” Godden said.  “With our new Thermal Regulation collection, as the skin gets hot, the heat gets absorbed, and as the body starts to cool, the heat is then released.  Think of it as moisture going from liquid to solid, then back to liquid, but being contained in a hollow core yarn.”

The men’s Thermal Regulation Collection is being introduced with three different polo shirts, a full zip soft shell vest and a heather half-zip mock.  The polo options feature a Heathered Solid, Multi-stripe and a Mini Gradient Auto Stripe.  Available colors include ruby, papaya, shamrock and oasis blue.  The soft shell vest and heather half-zip mock are each available in three colors, including marine and platinum.

“Today’s consumers are more aware and looking for added benefits from their sportswear,” said Vicki Bernstein, President of Bernstein Retail Productions in Houston.  “The addition of the thermal regulation collection from Ahead addresses this concern. I was very impressed with the color savvy collection of heathered fabrics incorporating flexibility from spandex and comfort from a jersey fabrication that helps regulate body temperature for added comfort.”  She added, “The product will display well due to the technical and textural elements, and also hits the consumer soft spot of $69 retail.  All good reasons to take a good look at this new introduction.”

"Adding Chris Trout to our team is a huge step forward for Sun Cup Golf Center," SCGC owner Jason Fry said. "Chris has tremendous ability as an instructor - as well as a proven record as a playing professional. We are proud to have him, and his talent can be of benefit to all our guests."

Trout, 31, is a Class A PGA Professional who most recently was an assistant professional at Cypress Lake Country Club for seven years. The Mariner High School and Florida Gulf Coast University graduate earned his degree in Sports Management, while playing for the Eagles' golf team from 2000-03.

Having won the 2010 South Florida Open champion and Player of the Year in the Southwest Florida PGA Chapter in 2011 and 2012. He holds the course records at Cypress Lake Country Club (61) and Miromar Lakes Country Club (64).

A game plan will be put into place to better reach their individual goals. I am a proponent of simplifying the golf swing, and video analysis will be provided to show how the body works throughout the swing."

"His playing talent is impressive, and he has the ability to connect with his students using a combination of technology and proven teaching techniques. He will flourish here, and the Southwest Florida community will improve their golf as a result."

Trout offers lessons to individuals and groups in 30- and 60-minute increments, as well as 30-minute junior lessons. All lessons include one-on-one video analysis.

New Hall of Fame Highlights Legends Week at French Lick Resort

(French Lick, IN) - In a continued effort to honor and show its support for the history of women's golf, French Lick Resort will unveil a new Legends Hall of Fame this week during The Legends Championship presented by Humana.

This new Hall of Fame, which will open later this year and be located inside the historic West Baden Springs Hotel, will honor the Legends of the LPGA and those who have had a major impact on the history of the women's game.

This years inductees, Jan Stephenson and Kathy Whitworth, will be honored during an induction ceremony on Thursday September 26 inside the atrium at the West Baden hotel. Todd Lewis, a member of the Golf Channel, will Emcee the ceremony. Lewis, one of the leading On Air talents for Golf Channel, has been anchoring, reporting, and conducting interviews since 2008.

"With our history of women's golf past, present, and future and the addition of the Legends Championship, it was a natural fit to create a Hall of Fame here at French Lick Resort for these legendary golfers," said Dave Harner, Director of Golf at French Lick Resort. "Stephenson and Whitworth have done so much for women's golf and are perfect choices for our first year of honoring these legendary golfers."

Jan Stephenson's professional golf career spans nearly 40 years, from earning Rookie of the Year honors when she joined the LPGA Tour in 1974 to her current status as career money leader on The Legends Tour, official senior tour of the LPGA. A woman of distinct opinion who speaks her mind directly, Stephenson is as much known for her outside-the-ropes impact on women's golf as she is for her multiple tour victories and major championship titles.

Highlights from Stephenson's career on the LPGA Tour include 16 wins, three of which were major championships. She won the 1983 U.S. Women's Open, 1982 LPGA Championship, and the du Maurier in 1981 when it was known as the Peter Jackson Classic. She was also inducted into the Sports Australia Hall of Fame in 1985.

As an active member of The Legends Tour, Stephenson has competed in 39 events thus far, earning 19 top ten finishes and three victories. She has represented the international team in six Handa Cup competitions. Stephenson also became the first woman to play in a men's Champions Tour event.

Stephenson was one of the first LPGA stars to openly embrace and champion a sex-sells approach to marketing. She became as famous for her sex appeal as her golf during the early to mid-1980s, when she posed in a bathtub - covered up only by the golf balls filling the tub. She also works extensively with many charities, including "Jan for Juniors", a non-profit organization which offers opportunities for the top two Australian female junior golfers to travel to the United States and experience an LPGA Tour event.

Kathy Whitworth is one of the best-known and most successful golf professionals to have ever played the game. Her incredible 88 LPGA Tour victories put her ahead of the class, both male and female, in tournament competition history.

As an amateur, Whitworth captured the New Mexico State Amateur title two consecutive years (1957-58) before turning professional in December 1958 at the age of 19. Her first professional tournament win came in 1962 at the Kelly Girl Open. By 1967, she had already amassed 30 victories on the LPGA Tour and showed little sign of letting up. In the next 18 years, she would win 58 more times, with her last victory coming at the United Virginia Bank Classic in 1985.

In 1975, Whitworth joined six others in the LPGA Hall of Fame. She has also been inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, the New Mexico Hall of Fame, the Texas Sports and Golf Halls of Fame and the Women's Sports Foundation Hall of Fame. Whitworth was the LPGA Tour's leading money winner eight times and has been recognized as LPGA Player of the Year seven times. She is also a seven-time winner of the Vare Trophy and one of only three golfers in LPGA Tour history to have won the same event five times (Orange Blossom Classic). Her major titles include the LPGA Championship (3), the Western Open (1) and the Titleholders Championship. She has been twice recognized by the Associated Press as Female Athlete of the Year and received the Patty Berg Award in 1987.

Whitworth has served as captain of two international team competitions: Solheim Cup and Handa Cup. She was the captain of Team USA in the inaugural Solheim Cup in 1990. She returned as captain in 1992; the U.S. side won both contests. From 2006 to 2011, she led Team USA to six consecutive victories over the internationals in the Handa Cup. She remains a source of inspiration and wisdom to LPGA Legends around the globe, attending Legends pro-am events to the delight of her many devoted fans and fellow players.

"To see the Legends Hall of Fame come to fruition at such a beautiful and historic place as French Lick Resort, and to perpetuate their legacy and honor the incredible contributions these Legends of the LPGA have made, is very exciting," said Jane Blalock, CEO of The Legends Tour. "Inducting inaugural members Kathy Whitworth and Jan Stephenson into the Legends Hall of Fame recognizes and celebrates the impact they've had on women's professional golf across decades of competition. It will be a great tradition at French Lick and for The Legends Tour to honor additional LPGA Legends for years to come."

Whitworth and Stephenson will highlight a field of 60 competitors including six LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame players and six Solheim Cup Captains next week at The Legends Championship presented by Humana Sept 27-29. The players will compete in a 54-hole event for the largest purse on The Legends Tour at $500,000, with the winner earning $75,000.
