EWGA Members from UMES Compete in PGA Minority Collegiate Championship

(Port St. Lucie, FL) - Last week, EWGA introduced their first collegiate chapter at the University of Eastern Shore. This weekend, two of our new members from UMES will compete in the 29th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship at PGA Golf Club from May 8-10.

The PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship has elevated golf in minority colleges and universities by providing opportunities for players to compete in a national championship. More than 230 student-athletes representing 50 schools are expected to compete in the Championship, including UMES students Tiana Jones and Jasmin Cunningham. Jones and Cunningham are students in the UMES PGA Golf Management Program. Jones won the 2014 Women's Individual Invitational at the 2014 PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship.

The PGA of America and the LPGA will jointly award the woman with the lowest overall score in the 2015 PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship an exemption into the Symetra Tour's Mission Health Wellness Classic, May 15-17, at the Country Club of Asheville in North Carolina.

"After one of the most exciting announcements in our EWGA history, we are excited to see our newest members competing in such a prestigious event," says EWGA's CEO Pam Swensen.

On April 30th, the EWGA announced the opening of their first-ever collegiate chapter at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The chapter launch was part of the UMES's 'Pink on the Green' initiative to get more women playing golf. Their partnership is an innovative way to diversify the golf industry and create opportunities for women to use golf personally and professionally.
