Product Review: Bollé Sunglasses

Over the course of the last year, we’ve taken a strong sun-safety stance on American Golfer. That said, while it may be common for golfers to lather up with sunscreen before teeing off, far too many continue to neglect their eyes.

In a nutshell ... Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation can cause everything from cataracts to cancer. Two suggestions: Wear a hat and find the right pair of sunglasses.

As far as shades go, take a look at Bollé. The company has a dozen golf-specific styles from which to choose.

Distortion is the No. 1 complaint I hear from golfers trying to play with sunglasses for the first time. Bollé understands that and has developed lenses that are some of the most distortion-free available. Their Modulator V3 Golf lenses are made with Trivex - much better than polycarbonate, which is used for many sport sunglass lenses - for advanced optical clarity.

These sunglasses will not negatively affect your game, but can actually improve it. How? The tint of the lenses is designed to highlight subtleties of the course. Reading greens becomes easier, whether it’s sunny or overcast.

The lightweight, flexible frames come complete with temple tips and nose pads that keep the sunglasses comfortably in place throughout the round.

Another complaint I’ve heard from those trying sunglasses while playing ... seeing the frame while looking down. Bollé’s answer to that: all golf-specific sunglasses in the collection (including the new Flash, Flyair and Attraxion models) have rimless or semi-rimless frame designs.

Perhaps the coolest feature of these sunglasses are the photochromic lenses. This technology is embedded into the lens at a molecular level to automatically lighten and darken according to the conditions - darker when the sun is glaring and lighter when it temporarily hides behind a cloud.

As for color ... Whether you’re looking to fly under the radar (matte black) or live out loud (neon yellow), Bollé has you covered.

Both the Bolt S (left) and Bolt (right) retail for $169.99 and come with a hard case and microfiber cloth carry bag.

Ray Bourque Named Honorary Chairman of 2017 U.S. Senior Open Championship

Salem Country Club set to host its sixth USGA championship from June 29-July 2

(FAR HILLS, N.J.) – Ray Bourque, who retired as the most prolific scoring defenseman in National Hockey League history and was a longtime Boston Bruins captain, has been named honorary chairman of the 38th U.S. Senior Open Championship. The United States Golf Association (USGA) will conduct the U.S. Senior Open at Salem Country Club, in Peabody, Mass., June 29-July 2, 2017.

Bourque, who played 20-plus seasons for the Bruins and led the franchise to a pair of Stanley Cup Finals appearances, won the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenseman five times and finished second to Mark Messier in 1990 for the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league’s most valuable player. He finished his career with the Colorado Avalanche in 2001, winning his lone Stanley Cup in his final game. Bourque was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004 in his first year of eligibility.

“Being named honorary chairman of the 2017 U.S. Senior Open is a thrill for me,” said Bourque, who received the 2003 Lester Patrick Award for outstanding service to hockey in the United States. “I’ve been playing golf most of my life and have been a member at Salem Country Club for 25 years. Every round there is special. I love the game and its traditions and I’m looking forward to helping with the championship and being associated with the very best senior players in the world.

“I’ve worked with kids my whole career and one of the great benefits of this event is kids 17 years old and under get in free with a ticketed adult. That’s an opportunity for a lot of young people to see some of the top golfers in the history of the game on one of the best Donald Ross courses up close and in person.”

Bourque annually hosts a celebrity golf tournament to raise funds for the Celebrities for Charity Foundation, which he co-founded with former teammate Cleon Daskalakis 20 years ago. One of the most honored players in hockey history, Bourque won the 1980 Calder Memorial Trophy as the league’s top rookie and the 1992 King Clancy Memorial Trophy for leadership and humanitarian efforts. He was chosen as an NHL All-Star 19 times, including 13 first-team selections, and was voted All-Star Game MVP in 1996.

“Ray Bourque is one of hockey’s greatest players and his name is synonymous with the Boston Bruins and sports in New England,” said Stuart Francis, USGA Championship Committee chairman. “He has also served the game of golf, been active with charities in his community and will be a respected ambassador of this year’s U.S. Senior Open.”

Bourque, who was born in Saint-Laurent, Quebec, and was selected eighth overall in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft by the Bruins, collected 410 goals and 1,169 assists for 1,579 points in 1,612 regular-season games. His assists total is fourth all-time behind Wayne Gretzky, Ron Francis and Messier. Bourque’s five Norris Trophies rank behind only fellow Bruins’ legend Bobby Orr (8), Nicklas Lidstrom (7) and Doug Harvey (7).

Bourque was the longest-serving captain of the Bruins, a 12-year span. From his spot on the Boston blueline, he led the franchise to two conference titles, five division crowns, and one President’s Trophy for most points in a season. In 214 NHL playoff games, Bourque accounted for 180 points, with 41 goals and 139 assists. His jersey number, 77, was retired by both the Bruins and the Avalanche.

"In addition to being a hockey Hall of Fame inductee, Ray Bourque is a valued member of Salem Country Club and is extraordinarily generous with his time and talents, which he shares with numerous North Shore charities,” said William H. Sheehan III, general chairman of the 2017 U.S. Senior Open. “Ray will be active in the lead-up to the Senior Open, which includes hosting a junior clinic during championship week. We look forward to working closely with Ray as the club prepares to welcome the golf world to Salem Country Club in just a few short months.”

In his role as honorary chairman, Bourque, 56, will support the sixth USGA championship to be held at Salem Country Club. The course was the site of the 2001 U.S. Senior Open, when Bruce Fleisher defeated Gil Morgan and Isao Aoki by one stroke. Fleisher, runner-up in the previous year’s Senior Open to Hale Irwin, shot a final-round 68 that included 12 consecutive pars to finish the championship at even-par 280. During the final nine holes of the championship, five other players, including Aoki and two-time Senior Open champion Jack Nicklaus, were tied for the lead.

The U.S. Senior Open Championship for golfers age 50 and older is open to any professional and any amateur with a Handicap Index not exceeding 3.4. The 2018 championship is scheduled for June 28-July 1 at the Broadmoor Golf Club (East Course), in Colorado Springs, Colo. In 2019, Warren Golf Course on the campus on the University of Notre Dame, in Notre Dame, Ind., will host from June 27-30.

U.S. Senior Open tickets are available online at www.usga.org/senioropen. Trophy Club, practice-round and championship-round tickets are available on a daily and weekly basis. Youths 17 and under are admitted free with a ticketed adult.

SCI-CORE Ultimate Practice Ball Gives Golfers Realistic Feel, Safe Indoors

New Ball Adds to Swing Coach Club Training Success

(Logan, Utah) – Safe indoors and outdoors, the newly released SCI-CORE practice golf ball is designed as a solution for golfers who want a realistic feel and result wherever they have enough space to swing a club.

On the practice range, inside the living room, or out in the backyard, the bright orange SCI-CORE practice golf ball is a great solution for practice virtually anywhere.

The SCI-CORE “real feel” practice golf ball is the heaviest practice ball on the market at 20.5 grams (0.72 ounces) – roughly half of a regulation golf ball. It is this extra weight that provides a “real feel” and allows for a maximum flight of 130 yards on full swings. Yet, with its condensed, patent-pending polymer foam construction, the SCI-CORE ball also floats on water for easy retrieval.

The SCI-CORE ball has a durable non-marking glossy cover, with a traditional dimple pattern for accurate flight characteristics. It is designed for extensive use, retains its shape, and will not crack over time. The SCI-CORE ball is so soft it won’t break a glass window and the cover does not leave scuff marks.

Developed by the creators of the Swing Coach Club training aid, the SCI-CORE “real feel” practice golf ball is available in a six-pack for $14.95 and comes with a lifetime warranty.

For more information and to order a six-pack of SCI-CORE “real feel” practice golf balls, access the Swing Coach website at www.swingcoachclub.com.

Carolina Fever

A potential Monday night March Madness championship tilt between the Tar Heels and the Gamecocks would determine not only the NCAA basketball champion, but also, once and for all, who is the “real” Carolina. But which state boasts the best golf?

(THE CAROLINAS) — One of the most popular storylines to emerge during this year’s March Madness has been both of the “Carolinas” — North and South — reaching the Final Four. It’s a story that will get even juicier should both teams win their Saturday semifinal contests in Phoenix.

A Monday night championship tilt between the Tar Heels and the Gamecocks would determine not only the NCAA basketball champion, but also, once and for all, who is the “real” Carolina.

This Hatfield-McCoy border battle infiltrates the world of golf, too. Which state — Tar Heel or Palmetto — boasts the best golf? North Carolina has Pinehurst, the “Home of American Golf,” and plenty of other storied courses from the Blue Ridge to the coast, while South Carolina is renowned for a coastline that includes Myrtle Beach, Kiawah Island and Hilton Head Island, along with its own equally diverse array of offerings from the mountains to the midlands.

But for this particular contest, let’s say the “blue bloods” are Pinehurst battling Hilton Head, while the “upstarts” are, say, the Outer Banks of North Carolina versus a place like Santee, South Carolina.

Pinehurst gives us the Talamore Golf Resort and its pair of recently renovated classic layouts, the New Course at Talamore, designed by Rees Jones, and Mid South Club, designed by the great Arnold Palmer. The ongoing restoration of the two classics — including conversion of all 36 greens from bent grass to Champion Bermuda receiving rave reviews — is part of a $6-million capital improvement project at Talamore’s four North Carolina and Pennsylvania facilities. For information call 800-552-6292 or visit www.TalamoreGolfResort.com.

Hilton Head Island is known for Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, which offers three world-class designs by a trio of the game’s legends: Robert Trent Jones, Arthur Hills and George Fazio, each of which has been awarded the Palmetto State’s “Golf Course of the Year” by the South Carolina Board of Directors of the National Golf Course Owners Association. This popular, 2,000-acre resort, bounded by three miles of Atlantic Ocean beach on one side and a sheltered Intracoastal Waterway marina on the other, has been named a “Top 20 Best Resort in the South” by Condé Nast Traveler. For information call 877-567-6513 or visit www.PalmettoDunes.com.

As for the upstarts, the iconic Outer Banks of North Carolina has long been a popular family destination, but also has made a name for itself as a great golf getaway — in fact North Carolina’s No. 3 Golf Destination according to GolfAdvisor. Along with its storied Lighthouses, Cape Hatteras National Seashore, famed Wild Mustangs of Corolla and scores of watering holes overflowing with fresh seafood and spirits, its growing golf reputation is further bolstered with memorable layouts like The Currituck Club, Nags Head Golf Links, Kilmarlic Golf Club, The Carolina Club and The Pointe Golf Club providing plenty of reason to pack your clubs next time you visit. For information call 800-916-6244 or visit www.PlayOBXGolf.com.

Last but not least, Santee, S.C., may be small in stature, but it more than packs a punch when it comes to outstanding and budget-friendly golf. For more than a half-century, traveling enthusiasts making their way through South Carolina along Interstate 95 have enjoyed a stopover in Santee — located almost exactly halfway between New York and Miami — for its superb fishing, excellent golf, affordable accommodations and outstanding food and entertainment. Three lakeside golf courses are less than a mile from one another, with an additional 14 layouts within a half-hour drive. For information visit www.SanteeTourism.com. Specific golf packages are available at www.GolfSantee.com and www.SanteeCooperGolf.com.

So, which of the Carolinas comes out on top when it comes to great golf? Well, like a potential Monday night NCAA title belt, such a momentous final call has to be made on the court — or in this case, on the course. Come to the Carolinas packing your golf clubs, an open mind … and determine for yourself.

Enjoy Golf’s Most Innovative Stay and Play Package: The Loop Reversible Course at Forest Dunes

(Roscommon, MI) – Forest Dunes in northern Michigan offers a unique 2017 buddy trip golf package experience unlike any other.

It’s the result of Lew Thompson, the owner of Forest Dunes, setting out a few years ago to add a second golf course to his nationally acclaimed destination and wanting something that would be industry changing and fun for all golfers.

Tom Doak of Renaissance Golf Design, one of the most sought after course designers in the World, delivered The Loop in dramatic fashion. With his Renaissance men, Brian Slawnik, Brian Schneider and Eric Iverson, Doak created a revolutionary reversible golf course that is played in two directions.

In terms of play for golfers, the result is three golf courses and a versatile 54-hole golf package that is as cool and unique as the destination itself.

“Since we opened the course to limited play last summer, and with the overwhelming anticipation for 2017, our phones have been ringing non-stop with golfers inquiring about golf packages and how they work,” Chad Maveus, Forest Dunes general manager, said. “The beauty of The Loop, and with how we alternate its direction each day, a golf group can play, for example the Red Course (counter-clockwise) on day 1, followed by the Black Course (clockwise) on day 2, then our original Forest Dunes course on the final day. This is just one combination of several that we can create.”

The Loop opened to limited play in 2016 and rave reviews followed, including being recognized as the Best New Public Course by Golf Digest and the Best New U.S. Course You Can Play by GOLF Magazine. Ron Whitten, Golf Digest’s architecture editor said in his article that the winning courses, which included The Loop, represented fun and playability and a trend that many architects are embracing by building for the masses.

Golfers building a stay and play golf package at Forest Dunes can simply combine a lodging rate with the golf rates. Lodging options include the Lake AuSable Lodge, golf cottages, or the new golf villas. Rates can range depending on the time of the season from $59 to $149 per person based on double occupancy. Golf rates on the original Forest Dunes course and The Loop course, depending on the time of season, range from $60 to $149.

In addition, Forest Dunes is providing a tribute rate during the summer months on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays on both courses for $85 for qualifying seniors 55 and over, ladies, military and first responders.

TGA Premier Golf Evolves with Launch of New Brand Logo

New logo represents the fun, active and introductory leader in golf, sports and education

(Los Angeles, CA) – TGA Premier Golf (TGA), the leading youth sports franchise company specializing in introductory junior golf programs, has unveiled its new brand mark and logo. This branding change coincides with TGA’s corporate rebranding and its focus on being the leader in introductory youth sports and education programs.

The new TGA corporate and golf logos represent the fun, active and innovative sports brand that is impacting youth, families and communities across the country. The three distinct symbols within the TGA logo are an inspiration for youth to get out and play, be active with movement and excel in academics.

“As our consumer base transitions from largely Generation X to more Millennials, it made sense to refresh our brand with a sleek, modern look and a value proposition that resonates with this audience,” LeeAnn O’Donnell, Director of Marketing explained. “The three icons are a visual representation of the elements that all of our programs combine to provide an unparalleled experience for our students: academics, athletics, and life skills.”

TGA’s (Teach, Grow, Achieve) unique delivery model solves golf’s main barriers to entry by delivering introductory programs directly at schools and community centers through before- or after-school enrichment programs. The self-sustaining, no funding needed business model puts golf on a level playing field with other mainstream sports and creates a healthier and safer environment for students to be introduced to and learn golf. What differentiates TGA is the station-based curriculum that includes golf skill progression, education subjects and STEAM Labs, as well as physical fitness and health components.

TGA has also created the Player Pathway, the first of its kind in the industry, which is having a major economic impact on golf courses nationwide. Once the students go through the introductory programs, TGA transitions them and their families from the school to partner golf courses through recreational programs such as camps, leagues and parent-child events, which results in increased traffic and revenues through green fees, food/beverage and merchandise sales.

Finally, through its own line of youth golf equipment, TGA provides age and height customized equipment for all students at no cost, as well as an affordable option for parents to get them into the game.

TGA’s golf franchises have now grown to 62 markets across the nation serving more than 3,300 schools and introducing over 650,000 youth (ages 5-13) to the game.

Introducing the PXG X Collection: Ultra-Low Spin Drivers, Fairway Woods & Hybrids

New PXG X Collection Goes Like Hell, Sounds Like Heaven

(Scottsdale, AZ) – PXG (Parsons Xtreme Golf) announced the release of new drivers, fairway woods, and hybrids. The new PXG X Collection is engineered for extremely low spin, incredible distance, and unmatched sound and feel.

Buzz surrounding PXG’s 0811X driver began last May, when PGA TOUR Professional James Hahn clinched a victory at the Wells Fargo Championship with an early prototype in his bag. Not long after, Charles Howell III reached out to PXG founder Bob Parsons saying, “this driver is so fantastic you’ve got to release it now.”

PXG didn’t release the club.

“We didn’t release the driver at that point because we knew several ways to make it even better,” Parsons shared. “For me there are three things that go into the experience of hitting a club – performance, sound and feel. It doesn’t matter how much we spend. It doesn’t matter how long it takes or how many iterations. Each one of those things has to be right.”

PXG continued to explore new materials and refine processes in an effort to exhaust all possibilities for making a better golf club. As a result, the ultra-low spin PXG X Collection features advanced technology that delivers exactly what PXG’s founder insisted on – superior performance, sound, and feel.

The PXG X Collection introduces a patented honeycomb TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) insert. A high-performance compound with vibration-dampening characteristics, TPE enhances sound and feel. The honeycomb structure increases efficiencies and helps to reduces the overall club head mass.

Additionally, each club incorporates an ultra-strong, lightweight carbon fiber crown, instead of heavier titanium or steel. Reducing mass in the crown area allows the weight to be repositioned in the sole of each club for optimal launch conditions. The matte black crown also reduces reflections and helps to eliminate distractions.

PXG’s Precision Weighting System leverages high-density tungsten and low-density titanium weights. The weights provide a significant amount of moveable mass in the club head that can be easily adjusted to influence spin and draw or fade bias.

“The clubs in the new PXG X Collection go like hell, and sound like heaven. They are simply in a class of their own,” Parsons added.

The PXG X Collection complements the original PXG 0811, 0341, and 0317 series as a club option for players who desire ultra-low spin, without sacrificing forgiveness.

The PXG 0811X driver is available in 9, 10.5, and 12-degree loft options. For players who prefer a lighter weight driver, PXG has also released the PXG 0811LX.

PXG 0341X fairway woods are available in 2, 3, 5, and 7-degree loft options, while the PXG 0317X hybrids are available in 17, 19, 22, 25, and 28-degrees.

Golfer's Dreams Come True on Anguilla

New luxury retreat “Nevaeh” (that’s heaven spelled backwards) features its own state-of-the-art golf simulator, sleeps up to 16 and costs as little as $403 per person per night in summer

(Anguilla) - Renting the new Nevaeh on Anguilla can be the experience of a lifetime for anyone.

But for golfing buddies, the year-old retreat is pure Heaven (its name, after all, is heaven spelled backwards). Well, how often do you find a sumptuous 8-bedroom villa that features its own HD golf simulator offering hundreds of the international courses? Think of the possibilities: A couple of avid twosomes can refine their swings with a clear conscience while treating their families to glorious beachside pampering - full staff, grotto pool, a media room, a movie theater, watersports gear and tennis.

- Eight golfing couples can prep for a club tournament in secret -- telling their fellow members they’re just heading for “a few days of sunshine in the Caribbean” rather than a week of intense practice at Neveah.
- Even elite touring pros might be tempted to gather their families for a once-in-a-lifetime vacation -- especially since they can put in a few serious rounds on the Greg Norman course just a five-minute drive away.
- Located in Anguilla’s fashionable West End, this private retreat is set in one acre of landscaped gardens that terrace down to one of the most beautiful beaches on an island of beautiful beaches.  A striking infinity pool flowsing into a grotto that’s the centerpiece of the garden’s playground, enhanced after dark with oversize antique lanterns and spotlights

One of the most tech-oriented villas in the Caribbean

The golf simulator is just the beginning of Nevaeh’s eye-opening diversions that leave guests wondering how they’re going to sample all the toys in one week’s vacation: Astroturf tennis court that doubles as a basketball court, a dedicated Techno gym, sea scooters and stand-up paddle boards, beach volleyball and kayaks.

Nevaeh’s entertainment facilities add up to a perfect retreat for extended families, with adults and children able to spread out in a 9-seat movie theater with surround-sound and a media room equipped with a 70-inch-screen TV (great for watching The Masters or the U.S. Open!).

Amazing Values
Summer rates (in effect April 23 through December 15 – that is, a full 8 months of the year!) begin at $5,980 a night for 5 rooms, $7,590 for 8 rooms, including chef, butler and concierge service.

So how about the arithmetic?   For 16 guests, $7,590 works out at $948 a night per couple (simulator included!).  To put that in context, during Christmas/New Year, the minimum stay is 14 nights’8 rooms at a cost of $172,500 per week plus 20% tax and service.

Mirimichi Green Express Presents Broken Sound with Sustainable Program Member Award

Award Presentation Amidst Broken Sound Club's Lush Club Course (from left): Boca Raton Mayor Susan Haynie, John Crean, Shannon Easter, Russ Britton, Michael Bright

(BOCA RATON, Fla.) - Mirimichi Green Express, co-owned by Entertainer and "Green" Golf Advocate Justin Timberlake and Russ Britton, recognized Broken Sound Club (BSC) for its commitment and superior sustainability stewardship and strides with its inaugural Mirimichi Green Sustainable Program Member Award. In honor of Broken Sound Club's eco-leadership, Mirimichi announced its donation of 1,600 lbs of Mirimichi Green's environmentally driven CarbonizPN and four cases of Liquid Release soil products to City of Boca Raton for use as it deems for its public green spaces.

According to Mirimichi Green Chief Executive Officer Russ Britton, BSC - a 5-Star Platinum Club of America - was selected as the company's first award recipient because it serves as a defining "best practice" example of all that is dynamic and beneficial about leading golf course sustainability using Mirimichi's products. The Club uses Mirimichi soil, organic weed control and granular fertilizers that utilize bio-activated carbon, inoculated with high-nutrient organics that are designed for professionals who are committed to sustainable practices.

"Broken Sound Club is taking the golf industry in the right direction and exemplifying how natural and sustainable products can work better than the harsh alternatives," added Britton. "We thank Broken Sound Club for including Mirimichi Green products in its efforts. Keeping the environment as a priority in any maintenance program is what we are all about and that is why we, at Mirimichi Green, have presented this award."

While there are carbon products on the market, BSC Director of Golf Maintenance Shannon Easter says the Mirimichi products feature a higher-quality, much cleaner and porous carbon that holds water, air and nutrients that are effectively absorbed by our plants. "We have not only found Mirimichi's products to be of superior quality and benefit, but also they are affordably priced to support large golf course budgets, which in Broken Sound Club's case annually supports more than 250 acres of club greens and landscaping."

The Mirimichi award follows the January recognition of BSC's two Golf Environmental Organization (GEO) Certified Audubon Sanctuary Certified golf courses as the best Overall and National Private golf courses in the U.S. by the
2017 Environmental Leaders in Golf Awards (ELGA).

The ELGA are presented annually by the  Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) and Golf Digest in partnership with Syngenta and Rain Bird's Golf Division.  BSC was the second golf facility in the U.S. (after the previous Timberlake family-owned Mirimichi Golf Course in Tennessee for which the company Mirimichi Green is named) and 14th in the world to be GEO Certified, the sustainability assurance of the Golf Environment Organization, an international non-profit dedicated to supporting sustainability in the sport of golf.

"We at Broken Sound Club are proud to receive this recognition on two levels," noted John Crean. " First, our program partnership with Mirimichi Green underscores our high-standard sustainability mission set by our board leadership, membership and golf maintenance team by delivering results beyond expectations. Second, that in Broken Sound Club's honor, Mirimichi Green has chosen to generously support our City of Boca Raton with superior product that can be used in our parks, along roadways and for City building landscaping.

"Broken Sound Club, which has been home to the PGA Champions Tour's season opener, the Allianz Championship since 2007, has taken an impressive, lead-by-example role in the golf industry by striving to make every step of its agronomic program sustainable," continued Britton.

"Justin, our entire team and I are pleased that the respected Broken Sound Club golf and country club community of high eco-commitment and authority has chosen to continue its mission using Mirimichi environmentally friendly products that are designed to improve resource conservation while delivering outstanding performance and  lasting benefits."

According to Britton, Mirimichi Green first noticed Broken Sound Club's sustainable efforts in March of 2014 and was "impressed by the Club's mindfulness of its community and surrounding environment". Mirimichi immediately recognized BSC's focus on integrated pest management, proper chemical and fertilizer practices, environmentally friendly landscaping, water conservation, water quality, energy conservation, pollution prevention, waste management, wildlife habitat conservation and enhancement, and the list goes on."

After meeting to discuss the benefits of Mirimichi Green's sustainable products and how they could benefit its program for BSC's two golf courses, it was clear that the two companies were a perfect fit. The products and the soil were first tested by BSC at The Old Course and a superior golf maintenance program was formed.

Broken Sound Club didn't stop with just improving its own program, they encourage and educate others to do the same.

"To advocate for the importance of environmentally friendly golf course sustainability within our industry and throughout South Florida, we continually demonstrate our commitment to the environment, and our dedication to precise and effective natural resource and integrated pest management," reported Easter. "We speak at Homeowners Association and organization meetings, tour groups through our on-course bee hive and butterfly garden locations as well as our composter site. During the season, we lead a monthly Club membership educational program with topics designed to share our environmental programs with Club membership to inspire them to advocate and participate."

USGA Announces Sectional Qualifying Exemptions for Inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open

New championship presents opportunity for golf’s most decorated women to compete for USGA title

(FAR HILLS, N.J.) – The USGA announced its exemption categories from sectional qualifying for the U.S. Senior Women’s Open Championship, which will be contested for the first time July 12-15, 2018 at Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton, Ill.  A full list of exemption categories – which includes any player in her first 10 years of age eligibility who has won a U.S. Women’s Open Championship – is available on usga.org.

The U.S. Senior Women’s Open is open to professional females, and amateur females with a Handicap Index not exceeding 7.4, who have reached their 50th birthday as of the first day of the championship. The field will include 120 players, who will earn entry into the championship through an exemption category or via sectional qualifying at sites nationwide. Exempt players who wish to compete in the championship must file an entry. Qualifying sites will be announced in the spring of 2018.

“Starting next summer, the U.S. Senior Women’s Open Championship will provide the game’s ultimate test for some of the most decorated women in golf, both professional and amateur,” said Stuart Francis, USGA Championship Committee chairman. “Chicago Golf Club, one of five founding member clubs of the USGA, will serve as a grand stage that will celebrate these incredible players who have paved the way for the current generation while continuing to elevate the game we all love.”

Several age-eligible players who meet exemption criteria for the 2018 U.S. Senior Women’s Open have won U.S. Women’s Open Championships, including: three-time champion Hollis Stacy (1977, 1978 and 1984), Juli Inkster (1999 and 2002), Amy Alcott (1980), Pat Bradley (1981), Laura Davies (1987) and Liselotte Neumann (1988).

Also exempt is any player in her first three years of age eligibility who has won the U.S. Women’s Amateur, ANA Inspiration, Ricoh Women’s Open, KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, Evian Championship or the Ladies’ British Open Amateur. Players in this category include Dottie Pepper, who won the 1992 and 1999 ANA Inspiration; Kay Cockerill, the 1986 and 1987 U.S. Women’s Amateur champion; and Pearl Sinn, the 1988 U.S. Women’s Amateur champion.

Winners of co-sponsored events on the 2016 and 2017 Legends Tour, the official senior tour of the LPGA, also earn exemptions. This adds Lorie Kane, who played in more than 10 U.S. Women’s Opens. Additionally, LPGA Teaching and Club Professional (T&CP) Championship winners from 2013-2016 – Jean Bartholomew, Lisa Grimes and Laurie Rinker – and the 2017 champion and runner-up, will earn berths in the 2018 Senior Women’s Open, provided they are age-eligible and file an entry.

There are also exemption categories for senior amateur players, provided they remain an amateur through the championship. This includes 2016 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur champion Ellen Port. A seven-time USGA champion, Port is tied with Anne Quast Sander and Carol Semple Thompson for the second-most USGA championships won by a woman, trailing only JoAnne Gunderson Carner (8). Jack Nicklaus (8), Robert T. Jones Jr. (9) and Tiger Woods (9) are the only other golfers with more USGA titles than Port. Exemptions upon entry will also be given to the 2017 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur champion and runner-up, as well as winners of the 2017 Ladies’ Senior British Open Amateur and 2017 Canadian Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.

The U.S. Senior Women’s Open format will mirror that of the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open championships: a walking-only, 72-hole stroke-play competition over four consecutive days. There will be a 36-hole cut to the top 50 players, including ties, and prize money will be announced at a later date.

Chicago Golf Club, the oldest golf club in the United States in continuous use at the same location, will host its 12th USGA championship and the first since the 2005 Walker Cup Match. The 2019 Senior Women’s Open will be contested at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C., from May 16-19. It will be the sixth USGA championship contested at the club and first since the 2007 Women’s Open, won by Cristie Kerr.

World #1 Wins in Back-to-Back-to-Back Starts, Captures WGC-Dell Match Play Championship

Using his prodigious power off the tee with his '17 M1 driver and brilliant putting with his Spider Tour putter, Johnson becomes first player to win each of the four WGC events

(RELEASE) - Coming into the week with wins in consecutive starts, world #1 Dustin Johnson showed no signs of letting up, completing his week with a perfect 7-0 record and capturing the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship for his 5th career WGC title. Fellow TaylorMade stablemate Jon Rahm, who also finished second to Johnson at the WGC-Mexico Championship, once again finished runner-up, continuing his rapid ascent up the Official World Golf Rankings.

DJ's driver setup hasn't changed since he first put it into play during his win at the Genesis Open at Riviera. He plays the '17 M1 460 driver with the same Fujikura Speeder Evolution 661 X Tour Spec 2.0, the same he used last year. His actual loft is 11*, which along with his weight settings, allows him to hit his preferred shot shape: the high fade.

An interesting note regarding DJ's bag lies in his '17 M1 fairway. It's cut to a 5 wood length (1" shorter than standard) and set to 17* of loft. Dustin carries it 280 yards, which is the exact number he's looking for in his 3 fairway. As you can see below, his weight is set toward toe much like on his M1 driver.

DJ's wedge setup often changes week to week depending on the conditions. So far this year, he's gotten comfortable with his TP MB PW along with a 52* & 60* combination in the Milled Grind wedges, which he added to the bag as soon as the Tour truck had them available. He once again played these two lofts throughout the tournament.

Similar to World #3 Jason Day, Dustin Johnson plays the Spider Tour Black putter, which he first put into his bag at last year's BMW Championship (he won). DJ prefers its firmer insert to Jason's Spider Tour red model. Also notable with the win, Spider becomes the most winning putter model on tour in the last 9 months, starting with Day's win at THE PLAYERS last year; a truly remarkable feat for the category.

What You Need To Know:
- Dustin plays the all-new M1 460 2017 driver, which he first put into play at the Genesis Open at Riviera en route to victory. His shaft setup has remained consistent - he uses a Fujikura Speeder Evolution 661 X Tour Spec 2.0, the same he used last year.
- Johnson plays the Spider Tour black putter, which he's used to much success since late in the '15-'16 season. This was the seventh consecutive week that Spider was the #1 putter model on PGA TOUR.
- TaylorMade once again won the driver count at the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship with 22 of 64 drivers in play.
- This was the fifth win this season for the new TP5/TP5X ball, with Johnson having 3 of them. Rahm and Garcia have also won this year with the new ball (Rahm: TP5x, Garcia TP5).
- Johnson's win is the 11th win in 14 weeks for TaylorMade's '17 M drivers, more than any other manufacturer.

Dustin Johnson's WGC-Dell Match Play Championship Winning Bag:
- '17 M1 460 Driver / 10.5* / Fuji Speeder Evolution 661 X Tour Spec 2.0
- '17 M1 Fairway / 17* / Project X HZRDUS Black 95 X
- RSi TP UDI #2 / Project X HZRDUS Black 105 X
- '14 Tour Preferred MB Irons / 3-PW / Dynamic Gold X100
