New Exotics CBX Fairway Wood Helps Tim Petrovic Earn Full Card for 2018 at PGA Champions Q-School

(RELEASE) - Former PGA TOUR champion Tim Petrovic played an Exotics CBX fairway wood to a fourth place finish at the 2017 PGA TOUR Champions National Qualifying Tournament at TPC Scottsdale Dec. 1. Petrovic fired rounds of 68-62-65 to jump out to the lead in the all-important qualifying event before shooting a 72 to finish T4 and secured one of only five fully-exempt PGA Champions Tour cards for 2018.

Petrovic is playing a 15 degree Exotics CBX 3-wood, the new club from Tour Edge that was designed to reduce spin with the world’s first Titanium face, Stainless Steel body and Carbon Fiber sole design. It’s also the only fairway wood on the U.S. market featuring a Titanium face.

Facing a field of 78 players competing over 72 holes for five fully-exempt cards in 2018, Petrovic, the winner of the 2005 PGA TOUR Zurich Classic, improved his status on the Champions Tour after a solid year that saw him finish 63rd on the Charles Schwab Cup with six Top 25 finishes.

Even when the stakes were highest at the end of the season, five new players that had never played a Tour Edge club in a professional event changed to the new Exotics CBX over the last four weeks of the Champions Tour.

Exotics CBX clubs earned three Top 5 finishes, four Top 10’s and five Top 20 finishes in the 2017 Champions Tour despite only being introduced to players at five total events this season.

The Exotics CBX features a higher CG that is located slightly forward in the club head through the use of a carbon fiber in the sole, which is significantly lighter than stainless steel. This helps to increase ball speed and reduce spin, which makes for less dispersion. Tour Edge’s extremely thin Beta-titanium cup-face enlarges the ideal hitting area on the clubs. It is brazed to stainless steel behind the hitting area which allows the face to flex more at impact.

This has led to independent robot tests that have shown the Exotics CBX to average more than 16 yards longer in distance than several of the best selling fairway woods on the market. Golf Pride Announces Passing of its Founder and Industry Pioneer Bill Junker

(SOUTHERN PINES, N.C.) - Eaton has announced that the golf industry lost one of its most respected and impactful equipment pioneers, William H. “Bill” Junker. Since the inception of Golf Pride, Bill was the driving force behind the development and the rise of the #1 Grip Worldwide. On November 19, 2017, he passed away in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 93.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Junker, and his late business partners, Thomas Fawick and Jim Karns, revolutionized the golf grip category by demonstrating that molded rubber provides the most playable and highest-performing grip surface available. Under Junker’s leadership, Golf Pride revolutionized the installation of grips with the introduction of the slip-on rubber grip. Prior to then, grips were molded directly on to the shaft making it virtually impossible to change grips. The innovation opened the door for both efficient equipment assembly and a full-fledged pro shop grip replacement business.

After Golf Pride’s parent company was acquired by Eaton Corporation in 1968, Junker retired and moved to Arizona where he enjoyed a successful second-career in commercial real estate. Although he took an early exit from the golf world, Junker maintained keen interest in the game and business, sustaining friendships with many Tour players, industry leaders, and golf writers throughout his life.

Like other innovators who challenged golf traditions, Junker was met with resistance to change, so he fought persistently for his product and vision, and by doing so helped usher golf equipment into the modern era.  In 1989, he documented the challenges, adventures, and colorful anecdotes related to launching what at the time was a radical new golf product in his book The History of the Golf Pride Grip. Today, we enjoy Junker’s legacy as the Golf Pride brand continues to be the #1 Grip Worldwide for both amateur and Tour players alike with 80% of Tour Players choosing to play the grip despite no paid endorsement fees.

Video Review Protocols Introduced for Broadcasted Golf Events

USGA and The R&A to adopt Local Rule to eliminate scorecard penalty

(FAR HILLS, N.J. USA and ST ANDREWS, SCOTLAND) -  A working group led by the USGA and The R&A has unanimously agreed to adopt a new set of protocols for video review when applying the Rules of Golf.

The group, consisting of the PGA TOUR, LPGA, PGA European Tour, Ladies European Tour and The PGA of America, as well as the governing bodies, will implement the following measures from January 1, 2018:
- Assign one or more officials to monitor the video broadcast of a competition to help identify and resolve Rules issues as they arise
- Discontinue any steps to facilitate or consider viewer call-ins as part of the Rules decision process

In addition, the USGA and The R&A have approved the adoption of a Local Rule, available from January 1, to eliminate the additional two-stroke penalty for failing to include a penalty on the score card when the player was unaware of the penalty. All of the organizations represented on the working group will introduce the Local Rule for 2018, and this score card penalty will be permanently removed when the modernized Rules of Golf take effect on January 1, 2019.

The USGA and The R&A established the video review working group in April to initiate a collaborative discussion on the role video footage can play when applying the Rules, including the challenges and benefits of its use and also the issues that arise from viewer call-ins.

David Rickman, Executive Director – Governance at The R&A, said, “This has clearly become an important issue in the sport that we felt we should address at this stage ahead of the implementation of the updated Rules of Golf in 2019.

“We have concluded that whilst players should continue to be penalized for all breaches of the Rules during a competition, including any that come to light after the score card is returned, an additional penalty for the score card error is not required.”

The new protocols also recognize the importance of limiting video review to material obtained from the committee’s broadcast partner. Other video, such as from an individual’s smartphone or camera, will not be used under these protocols.

The new protocols and Local Rule are the latest measures announced by the USGA and The R&A to address concerns related to video evidence. In April, Decision 34-3/10 was issued to limit the use of video through the introduction of a “reasonable judgement” standard and a “naked eye” standard.

Change of Venue Announced for 2019 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship

Bandon Dunes replaces Chambers Bay, which will now host the 2021 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball

(FAR HILLS, N.J.) – The United States Golf Association announced that the 2019 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship will be relocated from Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash., to Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore., to accommodate a turfgrass transition project at Chambers Bay.

“The USGA is extremely grateful to owner Mike Keiser and Bandon Dunes, a trusted supporter of amateur golf, for agreeing to host the 2019 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball while this work occurs at Chambers Bay,” said John Bodenhamer, the USGA’s senior managing director of Championships and Governance. “We also acknowledge the foresight and initiative of everyone at Chambers Bay in undertaking this work.”

The ongoing turfgrass project, which will transition the putting surfaces at Chambers Bay from fescue to Poa annua grass, will provide long-term benefits to the facility, which is an important asset to the community and region, according to Matt Allen, general manager of Chambers Bay. The course hosted the 2015 U.S. Open and is owned by Pierce County and operated by KemperSports.

The 2019 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship will be contested May 25-29. The U.S. Amateur Four-Ball consists of 128 two-player sides and requires two courses for the stroke-play portion of the championship. The specific courses at Bandon Dunes that will be used for the 2019 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball will be announced at a later date.

Chambers Bay will now host the 2021 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship from May 22-26. The Home Course in DuPont, Wash., will serve as the stroke-play co-host for the 2021 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball.

“Both of these sites are excellent championship venues and are unwavering in their support of amateur golf; they offer the USGA an opportunity to continue to conduct exemplary Four-Ball championships while providing an ultimate test for the players,” said Bodenhamer. “In addition, both of these Pacific Northwest communities have always offered a warm welcome to the USGA, its championships and the competitors.”

Previously, Chambers Bay was the site of the 2010 U.S. Amateur and 2015 U.S. Open Championships, while Bandon Dunes has hosted the 2006 Curtis Cup Match, the 2007 U.S. Mid-Amateur, the concurrent U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links and U.S. Amateur Public Links Championships in 2011 and the inaugural U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship in 2015. Bandon Dunes is also scheduled to host the 2020 U.S. Amateur Championship, which marks seven USGA championships hosted in 15 years.

He serves as a U.S. Customs freight forwarding broker and is responsible for reviewing documents and confirming government specifications for vessels entering the country. He is affiliated with the International Police Association, the A.T.L.A., the I.N.L.W.A. and the A.S.I.S.

Born on July 24, 1941 in Chesapeake, Virginia, Dr. Stringer obtained a M.S. in Criminal Justice and a J.D. from Western State College of Law in 1998. He then obtained a Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University in 2002. Previously, he served as a Peace Officer in Los Angeles County, California.

Dr. Stringer is a Certified Yoga Instructor and wrote a book titled “Yogi on the Green.” He wrote it to help golfers of all abilities to hopefully improve on their physical and mental game. Dr. Stringer states, “As noted in many Medical Journals, when one improves on their physical being, they also improve on their mental awareness.” It is available in a Kindle edition on Amazon.com.
